70: Who Is Really Leading Your Life?

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” — John 16:13

The Holy Spirit doesn’t simply point the way at major intersections in life. He leads us every day, in ordinary decisions, quiet convictions, and small acts of obedience. Many men ask for God’s direction when facing a career change, a difficult relationship, or a major decision, yet ignore His leading in the everyday moments that shape character. The trail is not built on occasional guidance but on daily dependence.

Jesus told His disciples that when the Spirit of truth came, He would guide them into all truth (John 16:13). That promise wasn’t an invitation to passive living. It was a call to walk closely enough with God that His voice would become more familiar than our own impulses. The Spirit leads through the truth of God’s Word, convicting, correcting, encouraging, and reminding us of what Christ has said.

Strong disciples learn that God’s direction is rarely rushed. The Spirit is not pushing us to react but inviting us to respond with wisdom and obedience. The man who consistently follows His leading discovers that faithfulness is less about dramatic moments and more about taking the next obedient step, trusting that God knows the trail long before we do.

Trusting the Spirit requires surrender before it requires direction. Too often we ask God to reveal His will while quietly hoping it matches our own. But the Spirit is not sent to validate our plans. He is sent to conform us to Christ. That means His leading will sometimes redirect us, slow us down, or ask us to lay aside something we wanted to keep. Those moments reveal whether we truly desire God’s will or merely His approval.

Walking by the Spirit also means resisting the temptation to rely solely on experience. Experience has value, but it can never replace God’s truth. The disciple who listens to the Spirit keeps returning to Scripture, allowing God’s Word to shape his thinking before his emotions shape his decisions. As that habit grows, discernment grows with it.

Along the trail, there will always be voices competing for your attention—fear, pride, success, comfort, and the opinions of others. The Spirit consistently points you back to Christ. He never leads you away from obedience or into compromise. His direction produces humility, peace, courage, and faithfulness.

Every day provides opportunities to practice following His lead. As you respond to His quiet convictions with simple obedience, you will find that the trail becomes clearer. Not because every question is answered, but because your confidence rests in the One who is leading you.

Live it out

Today, pause before making a decision and ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words, and actions. Open God’s Word, listen carefully, and obey the conviction He brings. The clearest path is not the easiest one—it is the one the Spirit faithfully leads you to walk.
