Blogging on Medium – Part 1

B

Are you like me when you come to a new community? I want to learn everything I can. Because the more I know and understand how things work, the better I can leverage that information to reach my goals.

My goals for writing on Medium look much like yours. I want to sharpen my writing craft, create brand awareness, assemble a considerable following, learn how to engage other writers, build relationships, and make money. I also want my writing to contribute to a better understanding of the subjects I write about.

To that end, as I’ve learned about Medium’s features, commands, settings, switches, nuances, and Medium minutia, I thought, why not pass along what I’m discovering?

1. What are the best practices for promoting my articles on Medium?

Don’t you always want to know the best way of doing something? I do. Best practices keep me out of trouble. Here are actions to consider when developing quick and easy Medium best practices.

Create story titles and headlines that are searchable by Medium users and search engines. Let me explain what I mean. The title of this article, Blogging on Medium, contains the phrase most people enter in their browsers, such as Google’s ChromeYahoo!Microsoft’s Bing, and DuckDuckGo. Blogging is also one of the most popular topics on Medium, with 94,000 stories.

Creative writers have the most challenging job of coming up with searchable titles and headlines. They’re trying to follow their storyline.

If you’re wondering what people are typing into their browsers when searching, try WordStream’s free keyword tool.
